First Evening in Paris

Once Kelly and Kate had taken naps Tuesday afternoon, we went out to do a little grocery shopping on the rue Cler and avenue de la Bourdonnais.  You have to take a shopping bag every time in Paris.  There are no free bags at the grocery stores.  There is no sign in the apartment of the grocery cart we used to put to good use.  We might need to see about replacing that.

Then we headed over to see the Eiffel Tower about 8:30 pm.  It stays light so late here--sunset last night was at 9:57.  Kate got a new camera for this trip and we had to try it out.

We are still getting used to so many leaves on the trees.  The view from Kate's bedroom window of the Eiffel Tower is a bit obstructed by the leaves.  Our last two trips to Paris were in the winter with bare branches.
There were people picnicking on the grass and exercise groups near the Eiffel Tower.  We saw big groups of people running along the paths.  Then they would drop to the ground and do exercises together like this group.

We found this mini Eiffel Tower on the Champ de Mars made from red chairs.

There seem to be so many Americans here, including lots of loud American college students roving in packs.  A group was making a lot of noise waiting for the Metro on our way to the Champs-Elysées and Kate was so disgusted.  No wonder the Americans have a reputation of being obnoxious here in France.
Kate snapped pictures of the ubiquitous produce markets and the typical French apartment buildings.  She keeps saying it doesn't seem real that we are actually in Paris.
