Carter's Arrival

The Thursday Kate had been waiting for finally arrived.  It was the day Carter was arriving in Paris.  Kate and I took the RER train to the airport to meet him.

Just when we decided it was about time to move over to the side where we thought he might come through the doors, I spotted his legs through the crowd.  He was finally here!

It was a very happy reunion.  Carter had even brought Kate a bagel and cream cheese from home--something she had been craving.  How thoughtful.

Carter's time in Paris was limited so we were glad to hear he had slept a bit on the plane and he didn't need a nap.  After getting unpacked and putting on his new Paris St. Germaine soccer jersey Kate had bought him, we took him to the Champ de Mars to see the Eiffel Tower.

We walked along the Seine to the pedestrian bridge.

We walked home down rue Bosquet and over to the rue Cler.

For most visitors, that would be it for the first day in Paris because of jet lag.  But not Carter.  He was willing to keep going after a little break at the apartment.  Next stop was the lock bridge and Notre Dame.

They wrote on their lock and finally found a place to attach it to the bridge.  Well actually, I think they had to settle on attaching it to another lock that was attached to the bridge.

We walked over the bridge to Notre Dame.

And then to Ile St. Louis and a stop at Amorino for gelato.

We walked over to the right bank to Hôtel de Ville to go back to the apartment to meet Kelly for dinner.

Along the quai below Hôtel de Ville the city has set up Paris Plage (Paris Beach).  They bring in sand and beach chairs and hammocks.  In front of Hôtel de Ville is beach rugby and basketball.  There were lots of people out sunbathing.  It is a little urban oasis.

We chose one of our favorite cafés, Café Central, on the rue Cler for dinner.  When we finished, it was 9 pm and Carter was still holding up!

Carter finally crashed about 10 pm.  We decided Carter deserved some sort of prize--we had never had a visitor do so much on his first day in Paris.
