Ste. Chapelle Concert

More friends have arrived in Paris!  James left on Thursday and our neighbors, Sande and Jenny and Jenny's two girls, Morgan and Breanne, arrived the same day.  There was no time to give into jet lag--they were in Paris and we had places to be.  That evening we went to Ste. Chapelle to see a chamber music concert that included Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Pachelbel's Cannon on the program.

It was stunning to be inside Ste. Chapelle at night.  We entered through the door upstairs in back, not through the ground floor, and had seats in the second and third rows.  Ste. Chapelle was built by Saint Louis (Louis IX) in 1248 to house his relics including the Crown of Thorns and a portion of the True Cross.  It was his private chapel connected to the palace that is no longer standing on Ile de la Cité.  The stained glass is stunning in the sunlight-beautiful blues and reds.  And the inside of the chapel is painted blue, red and gold.  It is one of our favorite places in Paris.

The concert began a bit late because the harpsichordist was still tuning his instrument.  He looked a bit like Doc in the movie "Back to the Future."

It was a fantastic concert and so intimate in that small chapel.  We love being up so close where we could see so well and the musicians were so animated.

Sande recorded a little clip of the group playing the Four Seasons.  It was a truly memorable evening-beautiful music in a beautiful venue in Paris.  You can't top that!
