Leap Day

A few of the students showed up for the Art History class at the Louvre on February 29th dressed in what they conceived as typical French outfits--stripes, berets and mustaches painted on a finger.  This is how they were celebrating Leap Day.  We weren't quite sure what was typically French about Phoebe's outfit-perhaps wearing mostly black?

We all thought they were pretty funny as they arrived for our three-hour class in the Louvre.

Later that evening some of the students decided that they needed pictures of themselves leaping on Leap Day at the quintessential Paris icon--the Eiffel Tower.  First they had to show off their finger mustaches by the Eiffel Tower.

Then they took turns leaping on Leap Day.

After the Eiffel Tower we all walked over to our favorite place off of rue Saint Dominique to get grec sandwiches (gyros).  We found this restaurant/take out when we were here in 2005 and we continue to return in part because of the Tunisian guy who always makes our sandwiches.  And he loves it when I bring students with me--he likes to show off in front of the cute young ladies.  He makes a big production of making the grecs and flirts with the students.

He puts cucumber sauce, salade, tomatoes and onions in the pita, adds the meat off the spit and then stuffs in french fries.  It is pretty decadent but oh so good.  Andrew says that he is going to get a grec sandwich as soon as he gets off the plane.

We went back to the apartment and ate our sandwiches and played Five Crowns.  A perfect end to Leap Day in Paris.
