Brocante

We noticed a banner across Avenue Bosquet near the apartment advertising a three-day Brocante (flea market) in our quartier near the Pont Alexandre.  That is the bridge across from Les Invalides up the street from the apartment.  After spending a second day at the Salon de l'Agriculture with Kelly, Kate, Brooke, Ashlie and Rebecca, we came back to the apartment to rest our tired feet before another group of us set out to find the Brocante.

Marie-Ange is 13 years old and in the Ward here in Paris.  She is in Kelly's Sunday School class with Kate.  Marie-Ange is trying to improve her English and a couple of the students are helping her.  Since she is on vacation from school, they took her to do American things like visit a cupcake shop. They brought her to our apartment for lunch.  I think she liked hanging out with the students.
We thought the Brocante would be in front of Les Invalides near the Pont Alexandre, but it wasn't there.  We went half way across the Pont Alexandre but couldn't see any sign of a Brocante on either side.

We gave up and walked back over the bridge and headed towards the Eiffel Tower.  When we got to the next bridge, we saw signs for the Brocante.  It turned out it was on the other side of the bridge and below it on the quai.
It was a pretty small Brocante but most everyone found something they wanted to buy.  The Brocante was pretty eclectic but had the typical bric-à-brac, old cameras, crystal, jewelry, china, silver, etc.
I bought 3 skeleton keys for Kate to use in necklaces.

Brooke found a vintage jacket and Phoebe bought some Limoges plates for 10 euros.  She just wanted 3 plates but the man would only sell the set of 12 together.  So for 10 euros, I told her to just take them all-she would have agreed to pay 10 euros for just 3 anyway.  Phoebe also bargained really hard for some teacups and saucers at another stall.  The tea set had 5 cups and saucers and she wanted just 2 and she didn't want the teapot.  She worked the guy over trying to get him to sell her 2 cups and saucers but he would only sell her 1 cup and saucer or the whole set.  This exchange took about 20 minutes.  The owner kept rolling his eyes and making gestures that said "This girl is a piece of work!"  I told Phoebe he wasn't going to give in and sell her 2 cups and saucers and be left with only 3 with the teapot.  Phoebe finally gave up trying to convince him and decided that she would take the 1 cup and saucer and forgo the whole set.  By the time we left the Brocante, satisfied with our purchases, it was dusk and the moon had risen.  Each of us was pleased with her purchases.
